CDE to Discuss Significant Changes to Independent Study in Webinar Workshop
Tuesday, August 3, 2021 @ 10:00 a.m. PST | Get Details and Register
From CDE: Assembly Bill (AB 130) was recently enacted into law and made significant changes to independent study and, for the 2021–22 school year only, requires school districts and county offices of education to offer independent study as an educational option (California Education Code Section 51745). A notice pertaining to AB 130 and Alternative Schools and Programs of Choice provides guidance on the implementation of independent study in accordance with the new statutory provisions signed into law on July 9, 2021.
The California Department of Education (CDE) is currently reviewing the impact of AB 130 and developing guidance for all LEAs. Once that guidance is available, the CDE will send out a communication via the PASE listserv. Instructions on how to subscribe to the PASE listserv are available here.
The experts on attendance accounting in the CDE School Fiscal Services Division can also be reached directly at: ATTENDANCEACCOUNTING@cde.ca.gov
To get updates and information on guidance on independent study as it becomes available, please also join the CDE Independent Study Listserv.
