Conference Notes for Attendees

What you should know!

Attendee Check-in:

Pick up your badges at Check-in under your name. No paperwork needed. Our Check-in table will be located in one of the main foyers at the hotel venue starting Wednesday evening. The Check-in table will be available during select times throughout the weekend. A paid order with your attendee info means you are registered and will have a badge waiting for you. About the Conference App for Attendees:

There will be a new interactive schedule app for 2026 (called “Whova”). Attendees will be provided access to the app to schedule your days and join events. You can use the app to set your schedule, select your seminars, read about speakers and exhibitors, share your bio, and interact with everyone.

Registered attendees will receive an email invite sent to the email address used to register them for the Conference. If you are attending, please check your inbox for the Whova invite. If you do not receive the invite, please check your “promo” folder and (in rare cases) your “junk” folder. We recommend you download the app once you receive the invite.

If you did not receive an invite to join the app, you can still download the app, find the CCEA Conference event, and log in.  For this to work, you must use the email address you registered for the Conference. If your email does not work, visit the Check-in table to get your badge and get help connecting with the app.

The is no invite code — if you received an invite code, that will not provide access.  Your email must be granted access from your registration.

You are not required to download the Whova app in order to participate with the Conference. We have provided every attendee with a special badge for access, and you can find the complete schedule above on this page. Your badge and the schedule will still let you enjoy the Conference. The app is provided for interaction and convenience.

Notes for Speakers / Presenters:

Presenter profiles in the Whova app have extra “bio” and profile fields, so you can share more with your audience.  You can include more description of your seminar, add article links, and include presentation materials for download.  We recommend uploading your docs to a Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, Sharepoint folder (whatever you use everyday) and include the link toward the top of your profile.

The easiest way to update your profile is by filling out the “speaker form” that app provides. You may receive an email from the CCEA account at Whova, reminding you to update your speaker profile.

Attendees can scan your badge to find your profile, or look you up in the app, and connect with you or download docs.  Likewise, you can interact with your audience in the same way using the app.  You can request feedback, make community posts and create polls within the app.

Featured Schools Visit Bus Trip (Thursday):

Pickup is 8am outside the front entrance of the Conference hotel venue. Buses will depart at 8:30am. There will be 6-8 buses that will have pre-arranged schedules of school visits in varying sequences. The locations and bus schedules are subject to change. If there is space available on the day of, you may register in person with a credit card. The bus trip to the Getty Museum has been cancelled. If you purchased the Getty trip, we’ve automatically transferred you to join the Featured Schools trip instead — we will hold your spot for you and you can check-in with the group normally. Meet and Greet Party (Thursday):

Big social event with food, games, giveaways and a no host bar. Thursday, April 30, 2026, starts 6:30pm. Location: Flamingo Lawn. All Conference attendees are invited to join us at the Town & Country resort for some fun and networking. View party info

Professional Awards and Exemplary Programs Dinner (Friday):

Friday, May 1st @ Los Angeles Marriott Burbank, starting at 6:30pm. Awards include Exemplary Programs, Superintendent of the Year, Administrator of the Year, Teacher of the Year, Officer of the Year, Classified Employee of the Year, Counselor or Support Person of the Year, and our Student Essay winners. Exemplary Programs will be featured. Professional awards and the exemplary programs showcase will be presented in person, for the 2025-2026 school year. Dinner with a speaker, special guests, awards for personnel, essays, student art, Region Basket, Vendor’s Raffle/Auction Prizes. Attire is evening casual. Busing from the hotel to the gala will start at 5:30pm; President’s reception 6:30pm; dinner at 7pm, with the awards ceremony to follow, ending around 10pm (or later). Attire is evening casual. The CCEA Plus 2024 State Conference will be hosted in Los Angeles for the weekend of April 25-28. Our biggest event of the year will feature four incredible days of workshops, seminars, celebrations and other group activities. We’ll also be honoring our new Model Schools and awardees from the 2023-2024 school year in person.

Important Event Notes

Membership Required: CCEA Plus membership is required for all Conference attendees and presenters. Active members can register online for a discounted price; this discount is only available for online registration, through the member’s account login.

Confirmation: payment is required in advance of the event for all attendees and dinner guests, in order to process badges, meals and seminars — by April 8th to be in time for badge printing, but no later than 4/21/24. Online registration provides immediate confirmation and an email receipt, with payment options including credit card, PayPal and eCheck (debit/withdrawal). Online registration is the preferred method for the 2024 Conference.

Once Registered: once paid, you are confirmed. Registered attendees can swing by Check-in at the Conference hotel venue and pick up their badges. Advanced payment is sufficient, best before April 8th for personalized badge printing.

Group Registration: if you are purchasing for a group of attendees, our Group Registration allows you to easily register a number of attendees in one purchase. Receipt is automatically emailed for your records.

Accommodations: hotel accommodations are not included in Conference registration. Please arrange separately. We have a special group rate for a block of rooms at the Los Angeles Marriott Burbank (the Conference venue). Available dates include Wednesday (limited), and Thursday-Sunday (open). Attendees may contact the hotel Reservation’s Center at 1-800-228-9290 and mention they are booking as part of CCEA, or book online with this special booking link. Booking online is the preferred method for you to get the group rate discount. The cut off for group rate reservations is March 27, 2024 (before before this date). Room block reservations may have additional limitations.

Model School Bus Trip and Visits: see current Model Schools in action, on a guided tour. Sign up is a separate add-on to Conference registration. Date: Thursday, April 25, 2024. Includes five school visits, lunch and bus transportation. Transportation to and from the Conference venue is provided. Pickup will be at the Conference hotel venue at 8am, leaving at 8:30am, with the trip ending no later than 5pm. The bus trip is not included with Conference registration, and requires separate sign-up. Space is limited, please register early. Student Essay Contest: enter your top student’s essay. Each school may submit up to two essays, one from a Senior and one from a Junior. The top six essays will be recognized. The top three will receive awards and recognition at our annual CCEA Plus conference. Deadline 3/15/24. Learn more

College Credits: you can now get college credit for attending the 2024 CCEA+ Conference seminars and workshops. Attendees can arrange for 1-3 credits. To formalize your credits, please follow these steps: Learn how to get credits

To Pay by Purchase Order or by Check:

Purchase orders (PO) payment is required in advance of the event for all attendees and dinner guests, in order to process badges, meals and seminars — by April 8th to be in time for badge printing, but no later than 4/21/24. We require our online Purchase Order Request Form to be completed in advance. *Discounted pricing is not available for purchase orders or offline payments.

Each registration is $849.00 per person using this method. An additional processing fee is required. Registrations can only be processed once actual payment is received (required in advance of event). Active members can only receive member discounts online.

About the Conference

This is the one conference of the year that focuses solely on the needs of continuation and community day schools. Come and hear about best practices from school educators from around the state. Topics will range from curriculum to climate, building hope with our students to taking care of our staffs. We’ll have experts from the California Department of Education to answer your questions about the DASS and the Model School program. In addition to the workshops and speakers, we have found that attendees value the opportunity to meet and share ideas with our colleagues from Alt Ed schools throughout California. We can learn best practices and new approaches to issues, and we can share our ideas with others. The conference is valuable for anyone who works in a alternative school setting. Model School Bus Trip and Visits: see three Model Schools in action, on a guided tour. Sign up is a separate add-on to Conference registration. Date: Thursday, April 27, 2023. Includes three school visits, lunch and bus transportation. Transportation to and from the Conference venue is provided. Pickup will be at the Conference hotel venue at 8:30am, with the trip ending no later than 4pm. The bus trip is not included with Conference registration, and requires separate sign-up. Each registration is $799 per person using this method. An additional processing fee is required. Registrations can only be processed once actual payment is received (required in advance of event). Active members can only receive member discounts online.

Important Event Notes

Membership Required: CCEA Plus membership is required for all Conference attendees and presenters. Active members can register online for a discounted price; this discount is only available for online registration, through the member’s account login.

Confirmation: payment is required in advance of the event for all attendees and dinner guests, in order to process badges, meals and seminars (best by April 25th in time for badge printing). Online registration provides immediate confirmation and an email receipt, with payment options including credit card, PayPal and Check (debit/withdrawal). Online registration is the preferred method for the 2022 Conference.

Once Registered: once paid, you are confirmed. Registered attendees can swing by Check-in at the Conference hotel venue and pick up their badges. Dinner guests do not need tickets, seats will be set aside for them. Advanced payment is sufficient, best before April 25th for personalized badge printing.

Group Registration: if you are purchasing for a group of attendees, our Group Registration allows you to easily register a number of attendees in one purchase. Receipt is automatically emailed for your records.

Meals Included: all Conference registrations include 5 meals, listed below. Each Conference registration includes dinner for the attendee at the Friday Awards Gala. If you plan to bring a guest to the Awards dinner, please purchase an Extra Dinner Ticket.

About the Conference

This is the one conference of the year that focuses solely on the needs of continuation and community day schools. Come and hear about best practices from school educators from around the state. Topics will range from curriculum to climate, building hope with our students to taking care of our staffs. We’ll have experts from the California Department of Education to answer your questions about the DASS. In addition to the workshops and keynote speakers, we have found that attendees value the opportunity to meet and share ideas with our colleagues from continuation schools throughout California. We can learn best practices and new approaches to issues, and we can share our ideas with others. The conference is valuable for anyone who works in a continuation school setting. Accommodations: hotel accommodations are not included in Conference registration. Please arrange separately. We have a special group rate block of rooms setup with the Sheraton San Diego. Booking link for group block — available dates include Wednesday (limited), and Thursday-Sunday (open). Attendees may also contact the hotel Reservation’s Center at 1-888-236-2427 (ask for the CCEA Plus room rate). Room block reservations may have limitations past a certain date. Please note that all 2020 and April 2021 reservations have been canceled by the hotel, and guests need to make new reservations. For credit card authorization forms, you may request one by contacting reservations@sheratonsandiegohotel.com (must be returned a minimum of 3 days prior to arrival date). Online booking is strongly recommended by the hotel for ease and convenience. Group block rooms are available while supplies last, and rates may vary over time.

Refunds and Transfers: we do not offer refunds on registrations or memberships, and cannot permit switching registrations for another person after orders are received. Billing policy (no refunds or transfers)

Once Registered: once paid, you are confirmed. Registered attendees can swing by Check-in at the Conference hotel venue and pick up their badges. Dinner guests do not need tickets, seats will be set aside for them. Advanced payment is sufficient, best before August 26th for personalized badge printing.

Topics, Tentative Agenda and Keynote Speaker

Keynote: Jack O’Connell is a former Calif State Superintendent of Education. He is also a partner with Barrett with Capital Advisors Group, an educational lobbyist group. Distinguished speakers include Jenny Singh and Betty Miura, CDE Accountability Administrators.

About the Conference: This is the one conference of the year that focuses solely on the needs of continuation and community day schools. Come and hear about best practices from school educators from around the state. Topics will range from curriculum to climate, building hope with our students to taking care of our staffs. We’ll have experts from the California Department of Education to answer your questions about the DASS. In addition to the workshops and keynote speakers, we have found that attendees value the opportunity to meet and share ideas with our colleagues from continuation schools throughout California. We can learn best practices and new approaches to issues, and we can share our ideas with others. The conference is valuable for anyone who works in a continuation school setting. Administrators, teachers, counselors, and classified staff all find relevant, “ready to implement” strategies for the classroom and school. Awards, Gala and Opportunities

Model Schools Awards Gala: Friday, Sept. 17th — the dinner will be held aboard the historic USS Midway aircraft carrier on the water. Transportation is provided to and from the hotel venue at no extra charge. At the Gala dinner, newly-selected Model Schools from both 2020 and 2021 will be awarded and recognized. Attire is evening casual. Tentative schedule: busing from the hotel to the Midway starts at 5:45pm; President’s reception starts 6:30pm; dinner at 7pm. See more photos of this amazing venue. Exemplary Programs and Professional Awards Lunch: submit your nominee or program in advance of the Conference anytime until the March 15, 2021 deadline. Awards include Exemplary Programs, Superintendent of the Year, Administrator of the Year, Teacher of the Year, Counselor or Support Person of the Year, and our Student Essay winners. Exemplary Programs will be featured; there will be no Roundtable Showcase. Professional awards and the exemplary programs showcase will be presented at the Saturday Awards lunch, Sept. 18, from 11:45 – 1:45PM @ Harbor Island Ballroom, Sheraton San Diego (the Conference venue). Lunch with keynote speaker Jack O’Connell, including awards for personnel, essays, art, Region Basket, Vendor’s Raffle/Auction Prizes. Both awards from 2020 and 2021 will be featured. Model School Visit: you may sign up for a spot on the Model School Visit bus trip during the 2021 Conference. Date: Friday, Sept. 17, 2021. Transportation to and from the Conference venue is provided in the fee. Pickup will be at the Conference hotel venue at 9am, with the visit 9am-12pm. Updates will be provided using the “Sched” app that will come out shortly before the Conference weekend.

Student Design Contest: the Conference program’s cover art was selected in 2020, and will be presented on the 2021 brochure cover. The contest is currently closed, and no longer accepting entries.

Student Essay Contest: enter your top student’s essay. Each school may submit up to two essays, one from a Senior and one from a Junior. The top six essays will be recognized. The top three will receive awards and featured recognition at our annual CCEA Plus conference. Learn more

Each registration is $539 per person using this method. Fee applies. Registrations can only be processed once actual payment is received (required in advance of event). Active members can only receive member discounts online.
